Mongols

Mongols Pattern, step 1-taking measurements

Begin by having someone else take four basic measurements:

A-waist (specifically where you want the waistband to be)
B-waist measurement to floor
C-measurement of crotch (from front waist to back waist)

D-4 inches

Length

Mongol Pattern, step 2-cutting the basic length.

Step I-cut two pieces of fabric the length of measurement "B" plus 3" inches.

Step II-fold both pieces salvage edges together.

Width

Mongols Pattern step 3-defining width of fabric

Step I-with the fabric pieces folded together, the measurement of "E" is as follows:

"E" = D + 1/4 measurement of A plus at least three inches

For example:

    "D" measurement equals 4"
    "A" measurement equals 36" (1/4 = 9")

    the equation would read like this E = 4" + 9" plus at least 3" or 16 "

Marking and Cutting

Mongol Pattern Step 4-marking and cutting the crotch

In this step we will be tracing the basic shape of the crotch using measurements C and D.

Step I-Marking the Blue "X"-measuring across, from the top corner of the non-fold edge of fabric, mark the length of "D" (4").

Step II-Marking the Red "X"-measuring down from the top corner of non-fold edge of fabric mark the 1/2 the length of "C" plus 2"

Step III-Mark a sweeping curve to connect the two "X"'s.

Step IV-cut along sweeping curve

Seams

Mongol Pattern, step 5-sewing part 1

Step I-unfold fabric, which should look like the image to the left.

Step II-place two pieces of fabric, right sides together and sew down each gentle curve.

Seams

Mongol Pattern, Step 6-sewing part 2

Step I-Keeping right sides together, rearrange fabric so that it matches the image to the left. (the upper dotted line is the seam made in step 5)

Step II-with on seam sew up one pant leg and down the the other. You will need to reinforced the crotch with extra stitches.

Step III-Try on the pants before hemming, make any alterations.

Mongol Pattern, step 7-hemming the garment

HemmingStep I-You will be using drawstrings in the waist and the hems, sew two buttonholes where the drawstrings will be exiting the each hem.

Step II-Roll hem the waist and hems

Step III-thread drawstring through the waist

Step IV-roll hem the pant leg cuffs.
