T-Tunic Pattern
T-Tunic Pattern, step 1-taking measurements

Begin by having someone else take four basic measurements:

A-Point of shoulder to desired length
B-Chest measurement
C-Circumference of arm at shoulder
D-Width of fist and height of fist

Cutting

T-Tunic Pattern, step 2-cutting basic length

Step I-pre-wash fabric

Step II-cut one piece of fabric twice the length of "A" measurement, plus 4 inches.

Step III-fold fabric with cut edges together. Each side of the fold should be the length of "A" measurement plus 2 inches.

You will then need to fold a second time so that selvage edges meet (see next diagram)

SleeveT-Tunic Pattern, step 2-marking the garment sleeves

This step will form the basic shape of the T-Tunic arms. The arrow marked with "C" uses the following measurement equation:

The C arrow = 1/2 the "C" measurement plus at least two inches.

Only 1/2 the measurement of "C" is used do to the first fold of the fabric. Additional inches may be added for greater fullness of the sleeves.

Using this measurement mark a straight line on the fabric as shown to the left.

T-Tunic Pattern, step 3-marking the body

This step will mark the basic form of the body of the garment. The marked arrow with the "B" uses the following measurement equation.

The B arrow = 1/4 of the chest circumference plus at least two inches

Only 1/4 of the overall chest measurement is used because the fabric is folded twice. Additional inches may be added for fullness of the garment body.

Using this measurement mark a straight line on the fabric as shown to the left.

Cutting

T-Tunic Pattern, step 4-Marking the neckline

This step will mark the basic form of the neckline

Step I-Place the fist, at the corner were the two folds meet. Using a marking pen, trace the fist onto the fabric. (neck can be widened later if necessary).

Cutting

T-Tunic Step 5-Cutting the Garment

Cut along the marking lines made in steps 2 through 4

HemmingT-Tunic Pattern, step 6-hemming the garment

Step I-Unfold the garment so it looks like the image to the left. Make any neck hole adjustments at this time.

Step II-Try T-Tunic on and make alterations.

Step III-If you wish long arms then attach additional pieces on each arm, making sure to match any pattern or nap. You MUST apply trim if you are lengthening the sleeves. This is to hide the seam line. It will be easier to apply trim before sewing black and red dotted line seams.

Step IV-Sew seams along the black dotted line.

Step III-roll hem along the red dotted line.
