The class would be limited to four students each session, natural fibers and closed toe shoes required, safety glasses will be provided. Each student will learn to make three arrow heads, a bodkin point, and two spade points, one that inserts into the arrow shaft and one that fits over the shaft like the bodkin. Demonstrations will also be provided for hunting points. No materials charge, period style forging, i. e. bellows use, not blower. The forges will be open all day for use as necessary.
Boffer Basics
Lord Sebastian Elgar
description on the way....
Cut and Thrust for Dummies,
or All You Need to Authorize in Cut and Thrust in 30 Days based on Dall’Agocchie’s Dell’Arte di Scrimia
Sir Logos

The biggest objection raised by newcomers about authorizing in Cut and Thrust Rapier is often the requirement for the knowledge of period technique. While seemingly daunting, the requirement is not hard to meet for anyone who is already authorized in rapier and studying a period master, be it Fabris, Capo Ferro, DeGrassi, Swetnam, or Meyer: merely incorporate the cuts and their defense advocated by that master.

On the other hand, for those not yet studying a period master, this task can seem insurmountable. This class, however, should overcome that objection and provide the knowledge and techniques necessary to quickly authorize. Based on the principles espoused by the Bolognese Master Giovanni Dall’Agocchie is his 1574 treatise Dell’Arte di Scrimia, this class will impart the minimum to start students down the path of historical combat research through the Cut and Thrust program.

This class will be hands on, so expect some physical exertion and dress accordingly. We will practice drills slowly in a controlled manner – there should be little or no contact. Therefore, a minimum of protective equipment is required: Fencing mask or helmet; jacket, gambeson, or other padded garment; gloves. A steel sidesword or backsword simulator is preferred, but in a pinch an SCA legal rapier, a wooden waster, or even a rattan sword can be used –

Medieval Riding
Sgt. Patrick von Brandenburg

An exploration of the advice on riding as laid down by Dom Duarte of Portugal in his book "Bem Cavalgar" c.1438 (relying principally on the 2005 translation by Antonio Franco Preto).

Initiative in the Lichtenauer Tradition
Lord Michael Ashley

An introduction to the concept of initiative in German Swordplay iwth practical exercises in the use of the longsword circa 1450

Pavillion Making
Lady Rebecca
Learn how to construct your own shelter!
Rapier Kill Pockets 101
Anton du Marais
Kill Pockets, how to make 'em and how to break 'em. Learn some sneaky tricks on how to use kill pockets to your advantage. This class will have practical applications at this year's Pennsic so come sharpen your skills with this useful tactic.
Rotello con Rapier or The Italian Dish That’s Not Just for Melees

Sir Logos

A weapon combination that is largely overlooked for rapier combat is rapier with rotello (large round shield strapped to the arm). A few have experimented with this style for melees with mixed success. Capo Ferro, however, provides simple and effective techniques for using the style in single combat. Based on Capo Ferro, Morazzo, and my own
experience, we will explore the use of the shield and rapier combination, focusing primarily on single combat, but will discuss and explore techniques for facing multiple opponents as well.

This class will be hands on, so expect some physical exertion and dress accordingly. We will practice drills in a controlled manner but the standard SCA rapier armor and gear is required: fencing mask or helmet;
jacket; gloves; rapier simulator and round shield. I will have some loaner rotellos available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own.

Wonder what Works? Are you a silk or duck fencer?
Lady Antine Andersdottir

Have you been wondering how many layers of which fabrics it takes to properly armor yourself for light weapons combat? This class will give you the basics on what's needed to make or purchase legal fencing armor. Examples of completed armor and proper fabrics will be on hand.

Don't see your class here? We've had some website glitches so please contact our Class Coordinator at baronaoc@aol.com
